Understanding Planetary Transits

Transits are the most common predictive tool in astrology. They answer the question: “How is the current sky affecting me right now?” By comparing the current position of planets to your fixed birth chart, we can see active themes in your life.

The Outer Planets (The “Big Stuff”)

  • Saturn: Reality checks, maturation, taking responsibility.
  • Uranus: Sudden changes, freedom, breakthroughs.
  • Neptune: Dissolving boundaries, confusion, spiritual growth.
  • Pluto: Deep transformation, power dynamics, rebirth.

The Inner Planets (Daily Life)

  • Mars: Where your energy and drive are focused now.
  • Venus: Current trends in love, pleasure, and spending.
  • Mercury: What you are thinking about and communicating.
  • Sun: The general “season” of life you are in (e.g., birthday month).

How to Read Your Transits

Look for conjunctions (planets meeting up) and oppositions (planets facing off) first—these are usually the most noticeable.

Also pay attention to the House the transiting planet is moving through. For example, Jupiter moving through your 2nd House might suggest financial growth, while moving through your 10th House could mean career recognition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are astrological transits?
Transits are the current positions of planets in the sky and how they aspect your natal chart. They are the most common predictive tool in astrology — they answer "what is happening for me right now?" by showing which natal placements the moving sky is activating.
How do I read my transits?
Look first at conjunctions (planets meeting your natal positions) and oppositions (planets directly across from natal). Then check which natal house the transiting planet is moving through. Outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) are the heavy "life chapter" transits; inner planets (Mars, Venus, Mercury, Sun) are day-to-day texture.
Which transits matter most?
Saturn (responsibility chapters, ages 27–30 and 56–59), Uranus (sudden change, age ~42 opposition), Neptune (dissolving, gradual), Pluto (transformation, generational). These outer-planet transits often coincide with the biggest pivots in a life.
What about Mercury retrograde transits?
Mercury retrograde happens 3–4 times per year for about 3 weeks each. It tends to slow communication, travel, and tech. The exact dates and signs each year are tracked on our Mercury Retrograde calendar.
How accurate is the transit calculator?
Natal positions follow the project accuracy contract, and current transits use the requested date/time rather than a fixed midnight snapshot. Aspect matching uses the calculator's configured orbs.
